Client spotlight: QMJ Group
QMJ Group approached abbots events to deliver their retail and stand hospitality requirements for industry exhibition, Hillhead 2022. The biennial event is the largest of its kind and is held in a limestone quarry in Derbyshire. It is attended by all the major companies in the mining industry.
The challenge
Following the pandemic, QMJ Group faced the task of finding a caterer to take on the Sponsors Café, Pavilion Café and stand catering orders as previous vendors were unable to return. We were recommended by another supplier of the show and having significant experience in this field, we were able to offer QMJ peace of mind that we could handle an event of this size. The main challenge was producing an offer that we could efficiently deliver within a quarry, dealing with all the associated logistical issues as well as meeting the expected standard of corporate hospitality.
Our approach
We rose to the challenge, developing a stand catering offering that provided a wide range of options to suit all budgets We also worked with the main show sponsors to ensure their branding was incorporated into the café offer and delivered to the correct specifications. Despite a short lead time and limited opportunities to promote directly to stand holders, we successfully generated a significant number of orders, outperforming the revenue of the previous caterer.
Results achieved
The weather was kind (which wasn’t a given!), and the show was incredibly exciting to see in action. Operating within a quarry, with a steep slope to reach certain points, was a first for us. Logistical barriers for deliveries, and being far from home, meant that we made sure that we were thinking ahead and were able to deliver over and above what we promised.
